Annual Montana Humor Prize
$1500 in prize money offered

Whitefish Review offers three $500 prizes. Winners will be published in the Winter/Spring 2023 issue.

Some dark, strange times…. Make us laugh!

In 2021, Whitefish Review hosted its first humor writing contest, judged by a group including comedian Jimmy Kimmel and musician Huey Lewis. This year, funny man Garrison Keillor has offered to be the final judge.

$1500 is offered between three categories, one for true stories, one for figments of the imagination, and the other for poetry, limericks, and the like. In addition to the prize money, the winners will be published in the Winter/Spring 2023 issue.

ABOUT OUR JUDGE:
Garrison Keillor did "A Prairie Home Companion" for forty years, wrote fiction and comedy, and invented a town called Lake Wobegon where all the children are above average, even though he himself grew up evangelical in a small separatist flock where all the children expected the imminent end of the world. In his newest novel, Boom Town, we return to Lake Wobegon, famous from decades of monologues on his classic radio show. Read an interview with Garrison and an essay we published in our latest issue (#27 - "The Vortex").

MONTANA PRIZE FOR HUMOR:

  1. I Made this Stuff Up! (Fiction Humor)
  2. The Truth is Stranger (Nonfiction Humor)
  3. Verse, versification, balladry (Poetry Humor)
